Questions about giving

Straight answers on Zakat, Gift Aid and how to get involved. Imam Yusuf takes harder Zakat questions after Zuhr on Saturdays.

Ask the Zakat desk
Is my Zakat kept apart from other gifts?

Yes. Zakat sits in its own account and goes only to eligible households. It never pays for buildings or wages.

How do I work out the Zakat I owe?

Add savings, gold, silver and money owed to you, take off debts due now, and if the total is above the nisab, give 2.5%. The calculator above does the sum.

Can I add Gift Aid?

Yes, if you pay UK income tax. Tick the box and HMRC adds 25p to every £1 on Zakat, Sadaqah and Lillah, at no cost to you.

Who can use the food pantry?

Any household in B9, B10 or B11. Bring proof of address on your first visit. There is no referral and no question about faith.

How do I volunteer at the iftars?

Pick a night, a three-hour shift and a role on the 2027 rota: cooking, serving or clean-up. Brothers' and sisters' teams run side by side.
